Person Centred Therapy

What is Person Centred Therapy?

What does Person Centred mean? This is an approach that was developed by a Psychotherapist called Carl Rogers (1961) * who believed that we all have within us an innate drive towards “self actualization”. In other words, we cannot but help to move through

our lives seeking the best ways to experience being a person upon the earth.

For me, Person Centred means that the work is centred around you as The Person. And that together we are working upon you identifying who is the Person at the centre of this work?

To do this I recognise some of the basic requirements, to be a Person Centred therapist, as outlined by Carl Rogers which are;

  • Unconditional positive Regard – meaning that you will not be judged.
  • Empathy – meaning I shall work to understand your feelings and experiences.
  • Congruence – I shall be genuine within our work together.
